Assistant to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer

This fresh, humorous take on fantasy romance is sure to please – there’s lots of fun banter with a grumpy/sunshine dynamic. It’s definitely a YA book but fun for anyone to read. And this limited first print edition comes with red sprayed edges. (And who doesn’t love sprayed edges?)

Babel by RF Kuang

If you haven’t already read this dark academia fantasy by the brilliant author of The Poppy War, then you need to add this to your priority TBR list stat! Babel is one of my favorite fantasy books of all time – it is written brilliantly and has a very explosive, emotional ending that makes you question the line between good and evil.

(Funnily enough, the beautiful hardcover of this book is what sparked my physical book-trophy obsession.)

Piranesi by Susanna Clarke

Piranesi by Susana Clarke

If you’re looking for a short but gripping unique fantasy, Piranesi is the book for you. I read this in one sitting six months ago and I still think about it all the time. Piranesi is a fascinating (if confused and childlike) character that you will be rooting for from start to finish.

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab

Don’t go into this expecting a typical romance – this ain’t that! What it is, is a beautifully written tale about time, love, change, and immortality. It’s one of my “Roman Empire” books that I can’t stop thinking about!

Sword Catcher by Cassandra Clare

If you loved Clockwork Angel by the same author, you’ll love this book. It’s a great summer read with beautiful writing that keeps you hooked from page one. It is labeled as YA but reads more like “New Adult.” It’s the first book in a series so be ready to want more once you finish reading it!

The Fragile Threads of Power by V.E. Schwab

V.E. Schwab is one of my favorite authors of all time, so you can’t blame me too much for putting two of her books on this list – especially considering how great the deal is! Fragile Threads is a continuation of the original Shades of Magic trilogy, taking place seven years later. I absolutely love these books so much, and although you can technically read this without reading the original trilogy first, I highly recommend you read Shades of Magic first for best emotional impact.

Spells for Forgetting by Adrienne Young

By the same author as the beloved Fable duology, Young’s adult debut is a national bestseller full of murder, magic, and gorgeous prose. It is uniquely written with short chapters from different POVs that jump around a lot – but the final result is nothing short of spellbinding. (Psst, The Unmaking of June Farrow by the same author is also on sale!)

To Shape a Dragon’s Breath by Moniquill Blackgoose

A fantasy with dragons that’s about survival and coming of age. It’s a unique premise featuring an alternate universe, with beautifully fleshed-out characters and gripping dialogue. It’s the first book in a new series that will leave you wanting more!

Five Broken Blades by Mai Corland

Five lethal liars come together to king the god king Joon – what could possibly go wrong! This Asian-inspired fantasy is told from multiple POVs with more than one romantic pairing and lots of twists. Also an irresistible buy if you love pretty books – I mean look at those sprayed edges!

When the Moon Hatched by Sarah A. Parker

When the Moon Hatched was an absolute TikTok sensation from the moment it came out, and for good reason – what’s not to love about a high fantasy book with dragons, assassins, and romance? This is especially a good book if you enjoy detailed world-building. (I also appreciate that the main character is older than 20 years old for once.)

Final Thoughts

You can bet my Kindle and cart going to be very busy over the next couple of days. But these are my top ten picks that I think are the best Amazon Prime Day book – there are countless other sci-fi and fantasy books on sale so be sure to take your time and look around!
